Scope and Content

A personal narrative typescript entitled "Awesome Spring" that describes the wartime experiences of a rifleman in Germany from March 2 to May 7 (V-E Day), 1944. Gregg's division entered western Germany from France, crossed the Saar River, and moved rapidly eastward through Saarbrucken, the Siegfried Line, crossed the Rhine and Neckar Rivers, passed through Heidelberg, crossed the Danube and was within a few miles of Munich, before being relieved in early May. He describes extensive combat, conditions among the troops, and some of the areas encountered. A photograph of his platoon, taken after V-E Day, is included.
