A collection of 10 news and public service announcements regarding sports, research, and public relations.  There was no date given but several of the announcements were included in an earlier tape and that date was 1983. However, some material seems to be earlier.  Some of the segments were taped over a television show entitled "Florida Basketball with Norm Sloan."  The program and other outtakes appear randomly on the tape.

Originally produced on ¾” u-matic.  Reformatted to Betacam SP in 2003 and MPEG2 in 2005.

Two professors in the University of Florida College of Education are doing research with teaching computer skills to two groups.  Dr. Elroy Bolduc is working with middle and high school teachers and Dr. Mary Kantowski is working with middle school students.  The project is funded by a National Science Foundation grant of $55,000.

A report on research at the new fitness center.  The researchers are using computers to develop a health profile on individuals and their exercise program.

Title:  [Clean Burning Coal]

Because there is more natural gas available than previously thought the burner developed by Dr. Alex Green’s son, Bruce, can be used to burn coal and use gas as a helper.  In this way the coal will burn cleaner.  Dr. Alex Green, research professor, and Ray Jones, librarian, both speak briefly.  Jones’s computer studies show that other countries are more advanced in their gas/coal technology than is the United States.  At the conclusion of the segment both men are shown holding a piece of paper with ICAAS at the top, which stands for the Interdisciplinary Center for Agronomy & Atmospheric Sciences.

Title:  [The LARC]

A report about the LARC, which is a combination boat and truck.  It can move directly from land into the water.  Coastal engineer David McGehee pilots the boat while other coastal engineers place underwater wave monitoring devices in the water.  The devices will provide information prior to and during hurricanes.

Warren Croke does a profile of place kicker Brian Clark who is also a junior and a public relations major in the College of Journalism and Communications.  Four clips are shown from each quarter of the UF/Mississippi football game.

This tape shows some of the buildings on the UF campus and the names of the various colleges and departments are mentioned.  Robert Marston says that UF has much waiting for you.  There is a graduation scene and the Alma Mater is sung at the conclusion of the segment.  Very bad color.

Max Robinson is featured in this brief promotional for the UF Foundation.  He mentions how he met national achievement scholar Andrea Pelt when he was on the UF campus.  He states that students such as this can be helped by donating to the UF Foundation.

Segment 11

In part this is a repeat of Segment 5.  Mike Dodson briefly interviews Coach Norm Sloan.  Game scenes are shown and Sloan’s voice is heard explaining the action on the basketball court.  The names of Ronnie Williams and Brian Delancy are mentioned.  The segment ends abruptly and segment 12 begins.

Title:  [Cris Collinsworth]

This is a profile of Cris Collinsworth who is on the football team (#21) and is a senior.  Scenes are shown from the UF/Auburn football game.  Cris downplays his role in the game but gives credit to the whole team.  He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  Even if drafted by a major team he plans on eventually getting his degree in law.
